Timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the South Downs Way the maps were launched at the Societies Fair at Lewes Town Hall on Sat 14 July. These informative and colourful maps show routes around Lewes town and also those up to and from the South Downs Way. There are detailed explanations of how to get around as well as places of interest on the way.
The maps are free and available from the TIC and other outlets around the town.
The town partnership acknowledge the generous support of Lewes District Council Think Air Initiative: to encourage non car use in Lewes town; Lewes Town Council; The PCT’s Health Improvement Programme grants to encourage healthy walking and Harvey’s . Without their help this could not have come to fruition.
We also thank Tim Locke, Richard Kemp and Andy Gattiker for their work on ensuring that the routes are clearly way marked and accurately as possible described. To Cllr John Stockdale whose enthusiasm and influence as Mayor helped to get the new spur route to and from the South Downs Way to the town created. Finally to Andy Gammon for his clear and artful interpretation of all the data into clearly explained walks, maps and routes.
